Lautman Maska Neill & Co. Joins Carey & Co.'s Growing Nonprofit Consulting Platform
Carey & Co. is expanding its nonprofit consulting platform once again — this time acquiring Lautman Maska Neill & Co., a Washington, D.C.-based, 100% woman-owned direct response consulting firm, the companies announced on June 3.
The move was driven in part by planning for a leadership transition, with Lisa Maska, Lautman Maska Neill & Co.’s co-founder, hoping to retire by the end of the year.
"Few organizations can offer that breadth of expertise while still delivering the thoughtful, customized, and insightful guidance that has defined each of our firms for decades," Maska and Tiffany Neill wrote in a blog post announcing the deal. “... It was critically important that this transition strengthen — not interrupt — our ability to help nonprofit organizations acquire, cultivate, and retain lifelong donors.”
The firm considered a range of options before landing on Carey & Co.
"Some would have required us to align around a single technology platform, fundraising methodology, or prescribed set of services," Maska and Neill wrote. "Others risked moving us away from the entrepreneurial, mission-centered approach that has always defined Lautman."
Under the arrangement, Neill will remain at the helm of the firm past Maska's retirement.
The Lautman deal is the third significant expansion for Carey & Co. in roughly 15 months. In March 2025, the firm partnered with Noble Accounting LLC, a nonprofit-focused accounting, advisory, and payroll firm based in California. Then, in August 2025, Carey & Co. formally acquired Schultz & Williams, a national fundraising consulting firm based in Philadelphia.
“This expansion is part of our long-term commitment to making bolder promises to our clients,” Carey & Co. posted on its LinkedIn page of the latest deal. “Nonprofits today are navigating increasing complexity: greater demands for impact, shifting donor behavior, operational pressures, and rapidly evolving expectations around sustainability and growth. We believe organizations deserve partners who can help address those challenges holistically, not in silos.”
