Everyone Needs Reminding
We are in this together — deepening a culture of philanthropy in our organizations, our communities, and across the boundaries of states and nations.
Important work. A high calling.
And we need to help each other along the way.
Fundraising — effective relationship building — can be intensive. Lots of moving pieces and lots of things to prioritize. Those of us who do it every day can forget how team members without direct development responsibility might feel: fearful, apprehensive, confused. And volunteers have other responsibilities such as important jobs, family and health concerns.
So whatever your program, whatever your plans, build in benchmarks, checklists and deadlines. Build in systems to check and double-check that you are on target, on task and on deadline.
Informally, that may mean a bit more communicating. Ask a few more questions, offer a little more help, and send a few more reminders. These things build relationships and build a stronger culture of philanthropy!

Jeff believes that successful fundraising is built on a bedrock of relevant, consistent messaging; sound practices; the nurturing of relationships; and impeccable stewardship. And that organizations that adhere to those standards serve as beacons to others that aspire to them. The Bedrocks & Beacons blog will provide strategic information to help nonprofits be both.
