Fundamentals Allow Freedom

“We must create good habits that will carry us in times of adversity!” tweeted University of Georgia football coach Mark Richt last week. College football season is around the corner, and there is plenty of excitement.

When I read Coach Richt’s tweet, it reminded me of fundraising. When you pay attention to the basics and follow best practices, it not only carries you in times of adversity, but it allows you to be more creative.

With fundamentals anchored in practices that are tried and true, you can fine-tune the appeal, the event, the meeting and the plan to the unique circumstances that you face.

No organization is the same as another. No situation is the same. But by having the discipline to do what is proven, you have the assurance of success, and with this confidence comes the ability to think more creatively, to think more strategically and to have more fun!

“Good habits are worth being fanatical about,” author John Irving said. Let’s be fanatical about fundraising best practices!
