ASPCA® Congratulates Jo Black Sullivan on Promotion to Executive Vice President
NEW YORK, April 23, 2009 — The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today announced the promotion of Jo Black Sullivan to Executive Vice President of External Affairs.
In her new role, Jo will continue to lead the strategic direction of the ASPCA’s Development, Communications, Special Giving, and Marketing & Licensing efforts – but will also take on the unique challenges of continuing to grow the organization into a leading not-for-profit.
“In her 10 years here, the ASPCA has experienced tremendous growth as an animal welfare organization, as a grant-giving non-for-profit, and as a house brand,” said ASPCA President & CEO Ed Sayres. “If Jo’s track record is any indication, the ASPCA will continue to grow, enabling us to save even more at-risk animals across this country through programs dedicated to fighting animal homelessness and animal cruelty.”
Jo joined the ASPCA in 1999 with more than 18 years of marketing experience to her credit, and was previously Senior Vice President of Development & Communications. Jo has managed several key milestones in the growth of the organization—including the launch and expansion of the ASPCA’s licensed product line to major retailers, the ASPCA’s mobile and social networking programs, a successful re-branding of the organization in 2005, and the launch of successful fundraising endeavors like the ASPCA’s Direct Response Television (DRTV) campaign.
Jo has also guided integrated Development & Communications outreach surrounding several high profile events—including Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and most recently, Gustav; the pet food recall of 2007; and the evolution of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month and the ASPCA’s ‘Go Orange for Animals’ campaign.
Ms. Sullivan started her career in marketing and advertising, managing several international promotional and direct marketing campaigns. She earned her B.A. in Communications and Public Relations from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, N.C. Jo is the proud pet parent of two dogs, a basset hound/beagle mix named Flash and a lab mix named Mickey. A native of Martinsville, Va., she currently resides in New York City.
