Pride Month 2020 is here, and that means it's time to remember queer history and give back — though we should be doing that year-round, too. Pride is a month of celebration, education and uplift for LGBTQIA+ individuals, whether you're a young queer person, a community veteran or a passionate ally. There are numerous charities and organizations that serve the queer community in different ways.
It's important to acknowledge the LGBTQIA+ community from various angles to diversify your attention, awareness and, of course, your donations if you're looking to contribute. Many LGBTQIA+ organizations are doing great work, so you can find one — or a few — that ignite your passion for the cause! Here are 20 you can pick to support:
The Trevor Project focuses primarily on LGBTQIA+ youth and mental health, providing a hotline and other prevention efforts to help young queer people. They seek to provide a safe place for queer youth to heal and find support.
Formerly known as the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, GLSEN is an education organization primarily centered around preventing bullying in schools for LGBTQIA+ students.
The Black Aids Institution works to promote awareness to prevent HIV and AIDS in African American communities.
The Family Equality Council is an organization that works to advance both legal and experienced equality for queer and non-traditional families. LGBTQIA+ families raise their kids, plan for the future and experience the world just like any other family. The Family Equality Council seeks to provide a safer world for them to do so.
