Step back in time with me — not too far — to when the Ice Bucket Challenge was in full flow. Seems like forever ago! But just the other day I saw the image here on George Takei's Facebook page. Mind you, that is not me in the photo. I didn't take the picture, and I don't know the woman. Or the source, other than George's page. (Yes, I am his close, personal Facebook friend — me and literally 7,956,928 other folks. Who knew Mr. Sulu would someday turn into an Internet icon?)
Obviously, the Ice Bucket Challenge is alive and well — and not only in the minds of people who were looking for pop-culture-themed Halloween costumes.
They're sure still talking about it over at the ALS Association, the nonprofit that didn't start the challenge but that certainly benefited from it — to the tune of about $115 million.
So it's with great excitement that FundRaising Success will be sitting down with the ALSA folks to talk about what's happening in that organization in the aftermath of the social-media phenomenon.
And we're even more excited that you can sit in!
In the two-part webinar series we're hosting in partnership with Blackbaud and Charity Dynamics, ALSA will provide an inside look at what happened this summer and what has happened since the Ice Bucket Challenge.
In Part 1, we'll talk about:
- what happened internally when ALSA figured out just how big the Ice Bucket Challenge was;
- how the organization will engage, convert and retain the donors who gave as a result of the challenge; and
- what the new normal is for ALSA and what it means for the future.
In Part 2, ALSA will share:
- the importance of peer-to-peer fundraising in a grassroots environment;
- how it saw peer-to-peer fundraising used successfully during the Ice Bucket Challenge; and
- strategies to recruit and engage participants into your peer-to-peer program.
