Knight Foundation Awards $1 Million to United States Artists

December 8, 2009, Philanthropy News Digest - The Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has announced a five-year, $1 million grant to United States Artists to support fellowships to artists in twenty-six cities.

The USA Knight Fellowships program will provide unrestricted grants of $50,000 to eighteen artists working in communities where the Knight brothers owned newspapers. In addition, fellows will receive $5,000 to engage local residents by conducting workshops, talks, or other events. The two recipients of this year's USA Knight Fellowships will be announced on December 14, when the entire cohort of fifty USA fellowships is announced.
