Way back in 2004, I talked with former Philadelphia City Councilwoman Joan Specter, who now is director of major gifts at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Her conclusion about fundraising? It's tough.
And political fundraising pundits were warning non-political organizations to give their direct mail a rest during the lead-up to the 2004 presidential election — or to prepare to take a hit as far as their results go.
I'm linking to the column here (in honor of our November Mission of the Month, which — appropriately — is political fundraising). Give it a read, if you please, and let me know what your organization did in regard to fundraising in the pre-election months this year. Or tell us about fallout you might have seen as the result of political fundraising pushes in the past.
