TakeTwo Services Launches Constellation, a National Directory of Nonprofit Consultants of Color

TakeTwo Services, a nonprofit communications and fundraising firm, launched Constellation, the first national directory of consultants of color who work with nonprofits.
The newly launched directory is searchable by area of specialty, and location, and includes data on consultants’ issues of focus, years of experience, language proficiency, and more, enabling hirers to target consultants that fit their projects’ unique needs. Nonprofit organizations, foundations that support them, and recruiters who assist with hiring for nonprofits can search and contact consultants listed on the directory.
Constellation seeks to address the lack of representation of people of color within nonprofits by helping hirers connect with consultants of color, and reach their diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.
Statistics on diversity and representation within nonprofits vary, but a widely-cited 2019 study found that roughly 87% of nonprofit executives in the US were white, while only 5% were Black, 3% were Hispanic, and 2% were Asian or Pacific Islander. Constellation seeks to address this disparity by connecting consultants of color to nonprofits, foundations, and recruiters seeking qualified consultants for myriad projects.
The directory started in May 2020 as a Google Sheet that Bix Gabriel, one of TakeTwo Services’ co-founders, created in response to “the outpouring of solidarity statements we saw being issued in the wake of George Floyd's murder. We wanted to do something concrete, if small, to address the inequities within the industry we know and work in.” That Google sheet grew to 500 consultants within a few months.
Now, in 2023, the Google sheet has been developed into a searchable website, with detailed profiles of consultants, and the ability to connect with them directly. Currently, about 350 consultants of color are listed on the directory, with more joining daily. They are located across the country, some internationally, and represent a wide range of expertise from DEI to development.
Constellation is free for consultants of color to join, while hirers may utilize it as a hiring resource for a small monthly fee, scaled to an organization's annual operating budget. TakeTwo Services will offer a one-month trial free to all new hirers at this time.
