Launch of the New NonProfit National Resource Directory
According to Independent Sector, "In 2006, there were over 1.9 million nonprofit organizations in the United States. The Internal Revenue Code defines over 27 categories of organizations exempt from federal income taxes, including private country clubs, labor unions, business associations, fraternal organizations, and many others. The majority of these organizations - about 1.5 million of them - make up the "independent sector."
The total number of independent sector groups has approximately doubled in the last 15 years. From 1995 to 2005, the number of charitable organizations registering with the IRS has grown by 53 percent.
The NonProfit National Resource Directory provides a one-stop-shop for nonprofits looking for outside expertise. Each page in the directory includes background on one business or service with references and/or testimonials and links to websites, articles, books and blogs created by the listed expert. Listings in the directory are not rated or ranked, but nonprofit leadership can quickly review the experience and expertise of the listed specialists to find one who fits their unique needs.
