Fort Wayne, Ind., November 24, 2009 — The Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has announced a $10 million commitment to the Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center at Indiana University for breast cancer research.
The foundation, the philanthropic arm of retailer Vera Bradley, is a longtime supporter of the IU Simon Cancer Center, having previously donated $10 million over the past eleven years to support breast cancer research, therapies, and an oncology chair. The center credits the foundation for funding the development of treatments for advanced forms of breast cancer, including one that forces cancer cells to grow old and die, as well as the use of new life-extending drugs such as Avastin.
