November 18, 2009, The Chronicle of Philanthropy — Michael R. Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, has pledged $125-milion for an international program aimed at reducing and preventing deaths and injuries from automobile crashes. The five-year program will benefit 10 low- and middle-income countries with large numbers of deaths resulting from traffic crashes.

November 4, 2009, The Chronicle of Philanthropy — Two anonymous donors have pledged large gifts to Amherst College, in Massachusetts. One of the anonymous donors pledged $100-million and the other pledged $25-million, the college announced this morning. Both donors are graduates of the college, but neither wanted the college to disclose their names.
