Data on Seattle Nonprofits Is Now Public

The Seattle Foundation started a new program on Wednesday to provide access to its data, research and evaluations of almost 700 local nonprofit groups in and around the city and King County. Such information was previously available only to clients who maintained giving accounts, known as donor-advised funds, but is now available through the foundations Web site free to anyone. LATE last month, tens of thousands of runners who are registered for this year’s New York City Marathon got an e-mail from Mary Wittenberg, the president and chief executive of New York Road Runners.

Microsoft Pledges $10 Million in Grants, Technological Support to Nonprofits Offering Employment Services

Microsoft has announced the expansion of Elevate America, a community initiative that aims to provide twenty-first century technology skills to people in need of employment.

Through the initiative, the software giant will provide $4 million in cash and $6 million in software and technology skills-training support over the next two years to organizations working to develop scalable programs that respond to the skills-training needs of people across the country.

The site boasts a catalogue of more than 8.5 million tracks, with individual song prices starting from 79p, the same as many other download services. Half of the net profit from every MP3 downloaded is donated to charity, such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, the British Heart Foundation, Friends of the Earth, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
