Recession Holds Perils for Local Nonprofits

March 31, 2010, Observer Dispatch Nonprofit organizations have undergone significant strain since the start of the recession, seeing funding sources dwindle even as need for their services grows, a newly released state Comptroller’s Office study says.

Troubles in government finances only add to the level of pain. Comptroller’s Office auditors found that 87 percent of state agencies’ contracts with nonprofit agencies that are $50,000 or larger have wound up delayed. That leaves nonprofits providing services without state payments immediately available to help them.
