
Earlier this month, nonprofit evaluator Charity Navigator shared its findings on the top cities in the United States in terms of nonprofit performance. St. Louis topped the list, followed by Houston, Cleveland, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Pittsburgh.
Last week, nonprofit software provider Blackbaud unveiled its Most Generous Online Cities report, which analyzed more than $822 million in online giving to 265 of the largest cities in America. And while St. Louis (12), Minneapolis (11), St. Paul (23) and Pittsburgh (17) made the top 25, the top spot based on 2013 donation amount per 1,000 in population was Seattle, which averaged $53,542 donated online per 1,000 people. Overall, Seattle residents gave more than 200,000 gifts and $33 million online to charity last year.
Rounding out the top 10 most generous online cities were Alexandria, Va.; Atlanta; Washington, D.C.; Cambridge, Mass.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; Arlington, Va.; Cincinnati; Bellevue, Wash.; and San Francisco.
Of the top 25 cities, eight are in the West, seven in the South, seven in Midwest and three in the Northeast.
