Engage P2P Spotlight: Responsive Design Vital for Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Websites

Last year, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) had an ambitious goal to increase participation in its signature Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes fundraising event 15 percent over 2012.
However, with an outdated website lacking mobile optimization, ADA's traditional Step Out site did not resonate well with participants, donors and supporters accessing the website from mobile devices. In this day and age, all fundraisers know how big a role mobile plays in peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns such as this.
Working with Charity Dynamics on a website redesign and utilizing Blackbaud's TeamRaiser solution, ADA created a responsive design for its new Step Out website with one URL, one website, one set of content and one set of code no matter the device. It also allowed the 125 local fundraising managers to customize their individual, local sites in a more uniform manner.
As a result, 30 percent of users of the Step Out site accessed the site from mobile devices compared to just 5 percent in 2012, which in turn increased participation and fundraising ease for the ADA's staple peer-to-peer fundraising event.
