I Want Your Top 5
I'm going to keep this week's post short and simple. Why? Because I want you to take the few minutes you spend reading my posts to send me your top five thoughts on innovative fundraising. Let me be more specific …
There are a lot of us old-timers out there blogging, which is great. The amount of experience that can be read and learned over the Internet across the blogs is pretty amazing. What I want to know is what you all, as readers, feel are your top five innovative ideas. I don't want something that is a 20-year-old innovation — I want only ideas that are relevant to today's marketplace and dynamic. Also, you can tell me about things you have done or ideas you have that have not been done.
I'm doing an experiment. I got into a spirited discussion with a fellow fundraiser the other day, and one of the comments thrown out was that there are no real innovators in our industry. Another comment was that our industry is too comfortable in the tried and true to try something really new. Before any of you say something out loud while reading this — yes, we discussed the difficulty in budgeting and how most nonprofits don't have research and development budgets, which also seems to stunt innovative testing.
So my goal is to prove this guy wrong. I can come up with 10 ideas right now, but I want to hear from you. And, in exchange for this, I'm going to share all of them (anonymously) in a future post.
Follow this link, and give me your "Top 5." I want to prove that our industry is made up of amazing thinkers — don't let me down. And by the way, the sky is the limit — think of channels, segments, premiums, strategies, offers, etc. And who knows, maybe with a few agency relationships we can actually get some pilots going around some of the most promising ideas.
