SAN JOSE, Calif., July 21, 2009 — United Way Silicon Valley, the Applied Materials Foundation and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation announced today the infusion of more than $1.5 million into the local nonprofit sector to increase safety-net services in Santa Clara County and strengthen the sector’s ability to effectively deliver services. The announcement was made this morning at Sacred Heart Community Service on South First Street in San Jose, an agency that is involved with United Way Silicon Valley’s Emergency Assistance Network.
