Staff News at FS
In February, FS Associate Senior Editor Melissa Busch has transferred to another publication within our parent company. We wish her all the best in her new endeavor. Coming back into the FS fold is former Senior Editor Abny Santicola, who will take over as managing editor for the magazine.
Abny’s new position will combine editorial and production duties. On the editorial side, she mainly will handle content for the FS Advisor and Giving 2.0, so you’ll be hearing from her again and seeing her at trade shows and conferences throughout the year.
As managing editor, Abny will be a real partner with me in the continued success of the magazine. Many of you know Abny and have worked with her, so please join me in welcoming her back. You can reach her at firstname.lastname@example.org. FS copy editor/staff writer Joe Boland has taken over the Pulse section of the magazine. Pulse includes announcements of fundraising conferences and webinars; fundraising professionals switching jobs; Q-and-As with fundraisers; and other bits and pieces of useful and/or entertaining fundraising news. If you have an item that you think would be a good fit for Pulse, e-mail information to Joe at email@example.com.
Joe also will be writing the magazine's LastLook feature, which showcases new and/or smaller organizations, and their fundraising strategies and challenges. Contact Joe if you feel your organization or one that you know would make for a good profile.
Fun With Focus Groups and Weathering the Storm
In his February Easier Said Than Done column, Jeff Brooks explains how to destroy your fundraising program in 45 minutes with little more than a one-way miror and a bunch of sandwiches.
And To the Point columnist Katya Andresen emphasizes the importance of meeting donor needs during the nonprofit nosedive the down economy has the potential to create.
Of course, if you haven't already checked out the features in the February issue of FundRaising Success, you should do it right now. The cover story is, of course, the announcement of our annual Fundraising Professionals of the Year Awards winners; and in the feature, "Diversify, Diversify, Diversify," Heather Burton talks about ways nonprofits can weather the economic storm by finding new options for funding.
