Couple Starts Nonprofit to Help Families of Fallen Officers

One couple decided to do something to help the families affected by the increase in the number of police killed in the line of duty.

The Rice family said the tragedy of Deputy Geer's death inspired them to create a nonprofit organization to help families of fallen heroes across the country. The nonprofit is called the Blue Family Tree.

Patrick Rice has been in law enforcement since 1999. Ever since he was a child, he knew he wanted to be a police officer. Currently, he’s a trooper with Colorado State Patrol.

“I love helping other people,” Trooper Rice said. “I love being there for my community.”

That passion led him and his wife to help other law enforcement families across the nation, who have lost a loved one in the line of duty.
